Founded
in 1918 by Manoel Domingues Pocas Jr., the Pocas Port house is a
family-owned winery under the guidance of Jorge Pintão who is making some of
the finest Port Wines in the world. Pocas does not have the long tradition
associated with older Port shippers, but “little by little” access
to the highest quality fruit along with sophisticated equipment and viticultural
techniques has landed Pocas Ports in the top ratings. In 2003 Jorge Pintão
was awarded the “Winemaker of the Year” for fortified wines
in the Portugal publication “Portuguese Wines” and Wine Enthusiast
recently gave high ratings to a number of the Pocas products. Pocas gained
their reputation for making superb Tawny Ports, but their portfolio is
rich with finely crafted Ruby’s, fun and festive White Port, Colheita’s,
as well as Vintage Ports.
