McLaren Vale
Coriole Vineyards
Coriole has earned its reputation as one of the most reliable McLaren Vale Shiraz producers citing a track record of 35 years of consistent excellence. Grapes have been grown since 1920 and the first bottled Coriole wine was the 1970 Shiraz. Robert Parker says, “one of South Australia’s finest Estates, Coriole rarely stumbles regardless of vintage conditions.” Mainly red earths over limestone describe the soil composition in this part of McLaren Vale and along with the moderating effects of the sea, great conditions make for great wines. Coriole is a little different than most properties “down under” in that they like to show their Italian side along with their Aussie side. Fun varietals like Sangiovese and Nebbiolo are also “go to” wines and you’ll love what the McLaren Vale terroir can do for them.
Rafferty's Rules
With a whimsical nod to the healthy disregard of authority and tradition that is part of the Australian heritage  (Rafferty's Rules, an Australian colloquialism, means "No Rules at all"), Rafferty's takes a few extra steps to arrive at the high ground of quality. This is the other approach to making wine. Instead of celebrating regional character as most wineries do, Rafferty’s blends their wines sourcing fruit from a variety of top Australian growing areas to obtain the best flavors, structure, and varietal definition. Smooth, rich, balanced wines of profound depth and length, Rafferty's celebrates the possibility of the varieties, taking advantage of their diverse environments. The 2002 [angels' share] Shiraz is sourced as follows: McLaren Vale 70%, Heathcote 18% and Langhorne Creek 12%.
