Kamptal and Kremstal
Weingut Dr. Unger, Kremtal
Dr. Unger farms 40 hectares of vines located in the prestigious Kremstal and Wachau regions of Austria.  Wachau regional wines are some of the most sought after in Austria. 1390 hectares of vines are grown on abruptly rising terraced hillsides of weathered mica schist, gneiss and loess deposited in the last ice-age.  In Wachau, Riesling is king, while the Gruner Veltliners hail from the famed Kremstal region where 2170 hectares of vines are grown mostly on the northern and southern banks around the town of Krems.  One of the oldest wine centers in Austria, Kremstal vineyards generally produce Gruner Veltliner that is approachable with soft, exotic fruit and a distinctive pepper note.
