Argentina
Lagarde, Mendoza

Since 1897 the Lagarde winery has been growing a reputation as one of the prominent producers of Malbec and other varietals in Mendoza. In addition to the Lagarde brand, the winery makes a value priced line of wines called Altas Cumbres. The 100% Malbec offers lush aromas of berries and cassis with an intense deep color and ruby red highlights. It is great with meat, duck and all types of pasta dishes. The 100% Cabernet Sauvignon offers a wonderfully rich composition of ripe blackberry, currant and plum notes. It's a lot of Cabernet for the money and is a perfect example of the wine tradition in Argentina. Great with all meats and cheeses.

Chakana, Mendoza

Chakana, or “high bridge”, is the term used by the Quechua culture to denote the “Cross of the South”, or the bridge to the highest of the universe. In ancient times, crosses were placed throughout the Andes to mark and protect important agricultural sites from potential harm or severe weather that could lead to poor harvests. Crosses were guarded to protect and assure bountiful crops, and today, festivals are held throughout the Andes to celebrate this sacred ritual. Enjoy these great new wines from Mendoza and experience a higher bridge to another form of quality and exceptional value! These wines are well crafted and full of flavor.

Gimenez Riili, Mendoza

The winemaking, family tradition of Gimenez Riili goes back to 1945 when he chose to work with vines from the subregion of Maipú in the heart of the now famous Mendoza appellation. Perpetuum and Terramedia are two exciting brands made by Gimenez that offer superb balance and great value. Perpetuum was constructed in the 1920’s and has recently undergone complete modernization. Perpetuum Malbec is rich, concentrated and aged in oak. The Torrontes is crisp, ripe and stainless steel-driven. Terramedia is more value-priced and the 100% Chenin Blanc is not your typical white wine from Mendoza, an area that normally produces Chardonnay. The Malbec-Cab-Merlot is unique too, fermented only in stainless steel making for a friendly, fruity red perfect for spring and summer.

Mayu, San Juan Valley

Located in the Zonda Valley of the San Juan province, this traditional cellar was recently purchased by the Berzenkovich family who have invested in new vinification systems, new management and new marketing. The family is dedicated to crafting wines of excellence with Malbec and Syrah at very low yields of about 2.2 tons/acre.

Ricardo Santos Winery, Mendoza

Indigenous to France and one of the five primary blending varietals in Bordeaux, Malbec has become the signature grape of Argentina, with the top quality wines coming from the Mendoza region. The Santos Family owns a twelve hectare vineyard in the heart of Mendoza they call “Las Madras” in which they grow nothing but Malbec. Ricardo Santos was an early pioneer and the first to put the grape name “Malbec” on a wine label during his early days at the Norton Winery. To this day, he is completely devoted to making only Malbec, although his son is taking over the winemaking duties and will soon be adding new flavors to the lineup. Ricardo focuses on wines that achieve a complex structure in the mouth with a soft, pleasant finish. We like to say the wine has one foot in the old world and one foot in the new, showing a style that shows plenty of modern fruit but with it comes that hint of rustic, earthy bottom that makes Malbec so interesting. Jancis Robinson described this wine as “rich, chocolaty and delivering considerable power”.
